Wellness is more than a trend, it’s a necessity. At Roam Loud, we believe that true wellness should be accessible, inclusive, and deeply rooted in the community. That’s why we created Take a Breath, our quarterly wellness initiative dedicated to ensuring that wellness experiences are within reach for all.
Through breathwork, yoga, and meditation, Take a Breath provides a space for Wanderers to recharge, reconnect, and reset. Every quarter, we partner with a BIPOC yoga studio or instructor in the United States to deliver in-person wellness sessions, removing financial barriers and fostering an environment where everyone can access the healing benefits of mindfulness and movement.
The Impact of Take a Breath in 2024
In 2024, Take a Breath made a lasting impact, creating safe spaces for collective healing. Here’s what we accomplished:
-
20 Wanderers united in a shared commitment to wellness and mindfulness, from Inglewood, CA to Orlando, FL.
-
1,000+ deep breaths shared in guided meditation and yoga practices, grounding each Wanderer with every inhale and exhale.
-
Two cities, from coast to coast, we brought accessible wellness to Inglewood and Orlando, proving that healing knows no bounds.
-
180 minutes of class time, allowing our Wanderers to immerse themselves in the transformative power of mindfulness.
-
Zero-cost wellness, because wellness should never be a privilege.
Wellness Instructors Leading the Way
Each Take a Breath session is led by an incredible instructor who is committed to supporting their community’s wellness journey. In 2024, we had the honor of working with:
-
Imani Nicole, Inglewood, CA – Imani led Black to Breath, a community-centered breathwork and meditation class held at The Salt Eaters Bookshop. This Black woman-owned space prioritized stories by and about Black women, femmes, and gender-expansive individuals before transitioning to a fully virtual model in 2025.
-
Lesline Pittman, Orlando, FL – Lesline guided Wanderers through a blissful yoga session at Creative Corner Studio, a Black woman-owned space dedicated to artistic expression and wellness.
“As Black women, we are very mindful of what our communities need from us,” said Lesline Pittman, a yoga instructor in Florida who is part of the initiative. “‘Take a Breath’ is for women by women. We need this.” (Amazon Small Business Empowerment Report, 2023).
The Power of Breathwork, Yoga, and Meditation
The benefits of breathwork, yoga, and meditation are undeniable. Studies show that these practices improve mental clarity, reduce stress, and promote overall well-being. Our instructors are committed to creating spaces where these benefits can be fully realized within their communities.
Research highlights the necessity of initiatives like Take a Breath:
-
Chronic stress caused by discrimination leads to premature aging and health issues, a phenomenon known as weathering (Source: NPR).
-
Regular mindfulness practices, such as yoga and meditation, have been linked to lower cortisol levels, improved cardiovascular health, and enhanced emotional resilience (Source: Harvard Medical School).
By prioritizing accessible wellness, our instructors are making an impact in their communities, ensuring that more people have the opportunity to experience the benefits of mindfulness and movement.
